Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, has urged Dream Team VI participating in the African U23 Nations Cup, which kicks-off today in Senegal, to ensure they win the tournament even as the players resolved yesterday to play every well and win their first game against Mali tomorrow, to soften the heart of their coach’s mother kidnappers to release her.
Nigerian Pilot Saturday sports gathered from the team’s camp in Senegal that the players had a serious meeting yesterday and vowed to do everything possible to pacify the kidnappers, just as they called on them to make out time to watch their game and find a space in their heart to release the mother of their coach.
‘’We have resolved to win for our Coach, Samson Siasia, so that the kidnappers can release his mother. We will give the abductors good game to soften their heart so that they can please have mercy on our coach’s mother and set her free.’’
Meanwhile, the minister of sports has assured the team of the unalloyed support of all Nigerians, including President Muhammadu Buhari.
Dalung said he has confidence in Coach Samson Siasia to succeed in a terrain he has recorded success several times,
“With Coach Siasia leading the team, Nigerians are confident that the team will not only earn the Olympics ticket in Senegal, but will also perform well in Rio and be among the top contenders for the gold medal which they narrowly missed at Beijing 2008 Olympics, when they lost to Argentina at the finals.’’
He urged the players to be dedicated and focused, as honour and glory await them at the end of the championship.
The opening game of the competition would be played today between Senegal and South Africa while Nigeria will play their first game against Mali tomorrow at Caroline Faye Stadium, Mbour, Senegal.
