Youth and Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, abandoned former proprietor of the Iwuanyanwu National FC of Owerri, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, at the National Stadium in Abuja yesterday and instead headed to Benin-City to join the campaign of the Edo State APC.
Dalung who was supposed to sign up on the Nigeria Olympic Fund, a project jointly managed by Iwuanyanwu’s Nigeria Sports Development Fund Inc. (NSDFI) and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) at the media centre of the National Stadium cancelled the activity at the last minute without reaching out to the invited guests.
Independent sources disclosed to Nigerian Pilot that the minister had agreed to the event. Journalists had gathered alongside the organisers of the event which attracted a handful of international sports brands who came to grace the event.
Attempts to speak to a disturbed Chief Executive Officer of the project, Mr Olajide Fashikun, he said, “we shall find out what happened but as at the last time we spoke, the Minister agreed to coming for the event. I won’t know what had happened but we shall find out.”
Meanwhile, insider sources disclosed that the disagreement between the NSDFI and NOC on how raised monies will be dispensed caused the dissuasion of the minister not to attend the event.
The NOC had wanted the NSDFI to raise the fund and hand over to them to manage whereas, the latter had insisted to manage the funds raised from Nigerians in a very transparent and accountable formats.
When asked, the former Zamalek SC star said, “I am not aware of this new twist. All I know is we are a private organization managed by international best practices. We shall live up to the history we are known since 1994 when we were established.”
