Sports minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung shocked bigwigs of the National Sports Commission and the management of the Abuja National Stadium when he paid an unscheduled visit to the complex in private.
‘’The sports minister inspected the stadium all by himself. We were simply stunned,’’ said our source, a top official of the NSC.
“The minister just didn’t follow the norms and I say it ruffled some feathers at the commission. Staffers now have an idea of what to expect from the newly-appointed minister,’’ added our source who did not want his name in print.
Nigerian Pilot Sports gathered exclusively that Minister Dalung was stunned by the dilapidated state of facilities at the Abuja Stadium complex.
“The minister has been saying it out. He hasn’t hidden his impressions of his maiden tour of the stadium from people. It’s common knowledge for us to hear him say, for instance, that his village stream is by far cleaner than the water at the swimming pool.’’
The development has kept NSC staffers in Enugu, Ibadan, Kaduna and Lagos zones on their toes as indications are rife that the date of the minister’s inspection visit will not be announced.
Last Thursday, the sports minister said the ‘Change Mantra’ of the APC-led administration was not only about fighting corruption but a complete change of attitude and the way we do things as a people.
Dalong who was speaking at the Gala/Awards Night marking the end of the 2015 FCT SWAN Week said “Nigerians must change the way we behave.”
