A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Bauchi state and one time Gubernatorial aspirant in the state, Alhaji Ahmed Shuaibu has described the recent defection by some politicians to the winning party as unhealthy to Nigerian democracy.
He made the remark yesterday while interacting with journalists in Bauchi where he said the series of political defections across the country few days after winning presidential election is not good for our democracy.
“Many will agree that the defection of politicians from last week after the presidential election is alarming and a mere reflection of the level of desperation for political relevance in pursuit of public office, which is undemocratic. The party ranking officers should be cautious of that. After all why do they want to leave now because the party is no more in power? this is very wrong,” he said.
He explained that those that defected recently have clearly demonstrated that they don’t have principles, lacks integrity, morals and could be described as undemocratic; saying instead of defecting to the winning party, they should have concentrated on re-shaping their party ahead of next elections.
Alhaji Shuaibu added that most of the defectors have benefited a lot from the party they are leaving either from the contract they received, appointment, employment and many other things.
“As for me I was in PDP and I left the party some years back since the inception of Governor Yuguda’s administration when I came to understand that he is not the type that will listen to good and healthy advice for the betterment and development of the state, so I decided to l leave PDP since then,” he said.
