Defectors to APC should beware – Ekiti PDP chair
PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC Party, PDP, chairman in Ekiti State, Barr. Gboyega Oguntuase, has said that the present trial of the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, by the All Progressives Congress, APC, led Federal Government should teach a lesson to defecting PDP members to the APC which has become a great regret.
Oguntuase, urged those planning to dump the party in Ekiti to be aware of the regrets being suffered by party bigwigs that had defected to APC, boasting that this shall be their lots if such dream is realizable. On the alleged factionalisation of the PDP in Ekiti State with Mr. Williams Ajayi and a former Senator, Chief Clement Awoyelu leading a splinter group perceived to be loyal to a Senator from Ogun State, the party boss said his executive won’t tolerate rebellious
actions from members, urging those belonging to the faction to retrace their steps. Speaking with newsmen in Ado Ekiti yesterday, Oguntuase said it is no longer profitable to leave a democratic party like the PDP and defect to the APC, a party he described as too ‘sectional and discriminative’ to accommodate defectors. The Chairman also disproved the wide spread insinuation that the party executive was being teleguided and outrightly subsumed by Governor Ayodele Fayose. “Those of us who had stood by Governor Fayose during the joyous period and when we were all crying and up to when we stood by the prison side to the time we were in the trenches knew him to be a man that believes in other people’s opinions, he was never a dictator. “So, to say that he is teleguiding us is out of place. The government and the party structures are
different, but we are working together toward making Ekiti great”, he maintained. Oguntuase stated that the party would continue to engage the aggrieved members and bring them on board, clarifying that the party is not in any way rattled by the gale of defections hitting the party. “Senator Bulkola Saraki and others sacrificed everything, invest heavily after dumping the PDP to join APC to advance the course of the party, but all the APC wanted for him now is that he should go to jail. This is a lesson to our members. Their future is not protected in APC. “But as far as we are concerned, we are not shaken by these defectors, because they will soon come back. We shall salvage them. We shall continue engage them, because we now have a Ministry of reconciliation, which preaches the gospel of peace all the times. “It is not a sin for anyone to hold a dissenting opinion , but
it should be within the ambit of the constitution of the party. The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko called it an act of indiscipline but we call it here rebellion”, he said. Stating that the state chapter of the party is solidly behind the Senator Ahmed Makarfi- led Caretaker Committee, the PDP Chairman added that the party would deal decisively with whoever poses as a ‘rebel’ in Ekiti PDP. “The court had ruled that Ali Modu Sheriff faction is not in existence, so I expect him to toe the line of reason and join the mainstream. “Particularly about the faction in Ekiti, I want to say that there is only one indivisible PDP in Ekiti. Those on the other side are only being propelled by a Senator who thought he had some dirty things to cover and we are not really troubled by this. But we plead with them to return home, because PDP is their home”, he advised.
