THE Executive chairman of Uvwie local council in Delta State, Mr. Henry Baro, yesterday debunked reports that he sent thugs to beat up some councilors of the Uvwie legislative arm.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Hilary Ukusare, the council boss while describing the report as untrue and unfounded stated that what was experienced in the legislative house was an internal crisis among the councilors leading to the suspension of some members who attempted to impeach the Leader of the House.
Denying his involvement in anti-party activities during the 2015 general election as well as intentionally withholding salaries of councilors who supported the Social Democratic Party, SDP House of Assembly candidate in the area, Baro noted that owing to the financial constraint of the council, councilors are being paid salaries in batches.
He said: “Owing to our financial challenges, members of the council’s legislative arm resolved among themselves that salary payments should be done in batches. As a matter of fact, no Uvwie councilor has been paid since January.”
Speaking further, Baro explained that despite the loss of the PDP in House of Assembly, he remains a strong member and loyalist of the party which emerged victorious in other elections in the area.
