Residents of Burutu local government Chairman of Burutu local government council area, have given their supports to Chief Ebikeme Clark, chairman of the council in his efforts to eradicate corruption in the council.
There have been allegations of mismanagement against the chairman by some persons who appeared to be affected by his anti-corruption fight in the area.
Some of the residents who spoke to Nigerian Pilot yesterday commended Ebikeme Clark for being transparent and prudent in handling the resources of the council.
A prominent leader in the area told Nigerian Pilot that since Ebikeme Clark assumed office two years ago, he has blocked the numerous leakages through which the council funds were being looted and mismanaged.
He said “ Ebikeme’s fight against corruption in Burutu local government is total and has yielded positive results, certainly, we expect that he must offend or step on toes of persons who are benefiting from the corruption”.
According to him” Ebikeme Clark pays workers of the council regularly, in fact, Burutu council under Ebikeme Clark is the only council in Delta state which pays workers salary up to date despite the dwindling allocations to councils in Delta State, he should be commended and not criticised”.
When contacted, the council chairman, who is the son of Ijaw foremost leader, Dr. Edwin Clark, simply said, “People would always condemn what is good, I will never enrich myself with the resources of Burutu council, I have my family name to protect, our mandate is to stop looting and corruption in Burutu council, which we have been doing, I will continue to do my best and leave the rest at the expiration of my tenure”.
