There was jubilation yesterday at Oporoza, headquarters of Gbaramatu kingdom, in Warri South West council area, Delta state, as the kingmakers finally crowned His Royal Majesty, Williams N. S. Ogoba as its 26th Pere (King) of Gbaramatu kingdom.
Thousands of Gbaramatu sons and daughters came from across the country to celebrate the enthronement of the new king at the Palace Square, Oporoza.
The coronation had several rites climaxing in his escort to the Gbaraun Egbesu Shrine where he undertook more secret rites before the new monarch was presented to a large gathering of his subjects at the Royal Square.
Chief Godspower Gbenekama, the Bebenowei (Chief Mobilizer) of Gbaramatu announced and presented the new monarch to the people, and was greeted with thunderous ovation from the crowd gathered to honour the monarch.
Gbenekama said “I present to you the 26th Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, HRM Oboro II”,
He added that, “We must at the success of royal transition praise the immeasurable leadership of our dear son and pride of the Ijaw nation, Chief Ekpemukpolo (Tompolo) whose selfless sacrifices and contribution for the common good of the people underscores the peaceful selection and coronation we are witnessing today.”
“We can’t say much of our dear royal father for now, but I can tell you that he is a young man who grew up on the home soil, well abreast of the tradition and he is informed, still in school attaining higher education.”
