Residents of Burutu Local Government Area have thrown their weight behind the council Chairman Chief Ebikeme Clark’s efforts to eradicate corruption in the area.

It would be recalled there have been allegations of mismanagement against the chairman by some persons who appeared to be affected by his anti-corruption fight in the area.

Some of the residents who spoke to Nigerian Pilot yesterday commended Chief Clark for being transparent and prudent in handling the resources of the council.

A prominent leader in the area told Nigerian Pilot that since the Chairman assumed office two years ago, he has blocked the numerous leakages through which the council funds were being looted and mismanaged.

He said “Clark’s fight against corruption in Burutu Local Government is total and has yielded positive results, certainly we expect that he must offend or stepped on toes of persons who are benefiting from the corruption, which has been able to curtailed”.

According to him” Ebikeme Clark pays workers of the council regularly, infact Burutu council under the Chairman is the only council in Delta state which pays workers salary up to date despite the dwindling allocations to councils in the state, he should be commended and not criticised.”

When contacted, the council Chairman, who is the son of Ijaw foremost leader, Dr. Edwin Clark, simply said “People would always condemn what is good, I will never enrich myself with the resources of Burutu council, I have my family name to protect, our mandate is to stop looting and corruption in Burutu council, which we have been doing, I will continue to do best and leave rest at the expiration of my tenure.”
