The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Lasun Yusuf was conspicuously absent at Osun Stakeholders Summit organised by legislators to salvage the state from economic hardship.
Also absent at the summit was the former deputy governor of the state and gubernatorial candidate of Peoples Democratic Party in the last year’s election, Otunba Iyiola Omisore.
The deputy speaker shunned the conference without any excuse or sending someone to represent him at the occasion.
It would be recalled that the federal legislator defied party’s directive to support Hon Femi Gbajabiamila to become the Speaker of the House of Representatives, rather he supported Hon. Dogara to become the Speaker, thereby denying the South West the opportunity to produce the speaker.
That action is said to have pitted him against the leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State. Since he emerged as the deputy speaker, he has not attended any state function.
Curiously the conference was put together by the Osun State Legislators Forum, both in the state and National Assembly and which he was expected to play a prominent part.
Meanwhile, Osun State overnor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has said that the present harsh economic situation was not peculiar to the state, stressing that the prodigal nature of past federal government put the nation in this present situation.
Aregbesola who spoke at the conference in Osogbo maintained that the present cash crunch would soon fizzle out; adding that the situation where the commonwealth of the country was siphoned by few privileged people in the society and nothing was done to checkmate them would make people to suffer.
Governor Aregbesola therefore urged the people of the state not to lose hope, adding that Osun State shall rise again.
In his welcome address at the occasion, Senator Olusola Adeyeye said that the essence of the conference was to salvage the state from the present reality of hardships, urging Osun people to rally round the state government to overcome the problem.
He said that since nobody can boast of having monopoly of wisdom, knowledge gained at the conference would be of immense value to the state government.
