Family of Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mrs. Gesila Khan, has accused the Department of State Security, DSS, of witch-hunting and intimidation.
This was contained in a statement issued to Nigerian Pilot, and signed by the representative of the family, Mr. Okubama Johnbull in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.
He revealed that over a week of her invitation, she has been cooling off at the DSS cell.
The week she was invited by the DSS, to Abuja, on matters bothering on the role she played during the last election,
she was detained, harassed, intimidated and subjected to inhuman treatment due to the visit of the former governor,
Rotimi Amaechi to the DSS office, which prompted the invitation of the Resident Commissioner.
The family of Mrs. Gesila Ekiotonye Okubama Khan of Peretonu, Bayelsa State, on Monday cried out for help from the Human Right Organisation, public spirited individuals and the world conscience to come to their aid, over the unlawful detention of Mrs. Khan.
He said, “it is alleged that she is being subjected to write an undertaking to turn the results of the Rivers State general election in favour of the All Progressive Congress APC, the ruling party to the national level.
“As a woman diagnosed with hypertension and diabetics, she has been denied her medication and the development has affected her health.
“It is a well known fact that, all matters or issues concerning the past general election across the country is presently handled by various electoral tribunals.
“As we wonder why the REC, Mrs. Khan, was singled out for victimisation and intimidation by DSS, as all issues concerning the past general election is before competent electoral tribunals setup by laws of the country.
“Therefore, we are using the medium to appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the apostle of change to quickly intervene and call the Director of DSS to order about all due process and the rule of law to prevail in this matter.
“We are equally calling on the attention of the River State electoral tribunal Chairman and members to be aware of the unholy victimisation and unlawful interference by the former governor and the DSS to allow the electoral tribunal perform their duties without fear or favour.
“We also call on the Rivers State APC to stop the maligning and desperate mudslinging of our daughter before, during and after the general elections.”
