Following some media reports that the National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria has suspended its proposed nationwide strike, national president of the association, Dr. Mohammad Askira has denied the speculations saying “it’s not only untrue but unfounded.”
He disclosed this in a statement issued yesterday to Nigerian Pilot.
“The association wishes to deny some media reports saying that it has suspended the planned strike action in full.
“The association wishes to state that only members whose salaries are paid in full (with100 percent skipping) are exempted from starting the strike on June 9, following the intervention of the speaker of the House of Representatives while those who are getting fractions or no salaries will continue the strike action as planned,” the statement read.
He further disclosed that a stakeholders meeting was scheduled for next week Tuesday and would be chaired by the speaker.
“This is the true position of the meeting between the national president and other members of the leadership and the speaker of the House of Representatives held on Wednesday, June 8,” the statement added.
It further urged all members of the association to disregard the rumour, adding that “all members should await and regard further communication only from the NARD leadership.”
