South East Professional Forum, SEPF, an umbrella body of Igbo professionals, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to discriminate against the Igbo’s in the appointment of key government officials in his government, adding that they are solidly behind his government.
The group stated that the Igbo’s, especially in the 19 northern states, worked hard for the emergence of President Buhari at the last election therefore, he should not neglect the South East.
The group made this known in a statement in Abuja by its national chairman, Engineer Kenneth Iwueke and secretary, Bar Austine Ezeugo. The group said it would be counterproductive to exclude the entire South East geo-political zone from the decision making body of this administration.
The SEPF further stated that it was evidently clear, based on the political equation and appointments made so far, that the Igbo’s were yet to be included in the decision making body of Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
While calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to be inclusive in his appointments, the group specifically urged him to appoint a credible person into the Office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, from the South East, adding that such appointment would give the Igbo a sense of belonging, as well as satisfy the constitutional principle of federal character.
The group claimed that they were not averse to the nomination of Dr Ogbonaya Onu by the leadership of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo as candidate for the SGF position, saying that if Onu was eventually chosen, he would give value to the party and this administration.
The delay in the appointment of SGF by President Buhari has thrown agitation among the geo political zones, with the South East laying claim to the position.
