Two filling stations allegedly owned by a former governor of Oyo State were among 40 others sealed off in Ogbomosho on Thursday by the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, for causing artificial fuel scarcity in Oyo and Osun states.
The DPR, which started the arrest of petroleum marketers infamous for non- compliance with selling petroleum products at government approved prices, sealed off some 50 petrol stations in Ibadan and it environ the previous day.
The DPR sustained its campaign against non-compliance with approved government price despite being assaulted by hoodlums allegedly sponsored by some station officials.
The TDB global ventures limited on Ogbomosho-Ilorin road and another one located at Atanda Street, both in Ogbomosho, were sealed off on offences bothering on selling above government approved prices.
When the team got to the Ogbomosho-Ilorin outlet, the sales attendants were caught selling petrol at N100/ltr and kerosene at N97/ltr. Efforts by the station manager to persuade the inspection team to bulge fell on deaf ears.
Other petrol stations sealed in the axis include: Emaayo golden investment limited and Molab international investment limited, Ori-aro, Oyo town.
Alesh Raheem Oil filling station at Isare, Ilesha was re-sealed off by the combined team of officials of the DPR Ibadan field office and men of the NSCDC, Osun state Command, having been sealed off a day earlier only to discover that the DPR seals were broken off and they were selling their product illegally.
Engineer Olakunle Ogunlana, Oyo and Osun states field controller, who spoke through Mr. Sadiq Ibrahim, deputy manager (operations) who led the team, said the DPR will not fold its hand and watch economic saboteurs ruin government efforts.
“All we are just doing is to ensure people do what is right. Operators and fuel marketers must operate according to government stipulated directives,” Ibrahim said.
The team also sealed off another branch operated by Alesh Raheem at Sawmill, Oke Omiru, Ilesha. Others sealed off for similar sharp practices in the same axis are Topmost Petroleum Oke-Omiru, Nikky Choice Energy and Ominu Oil and Gas limited, Irojo, Ilesha, allegedly owned and operated by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigerian, Ilesha branch chairman.
