Montreal Impact striker Didier Drogba was named MLS player of the month for September, following a fan vote at MLSsoccer.com.
In September, Drogba recorded seven goals, including two winners, and one assist in five starts.
He helped the Impact to an MLS club record six-game unbeaten streak (4-0-2).
After his first full month in MLS, Drogba was named MLS player of the week on two occasions, was named to the MLSSoccer.com team of the week three times and won the MLS AT&T goal of the week twice. He was also selected as the Vidéotron mobile player of the game four times.
However, it has yet to be determined if Drogba will play in Saturday night’s game against Orlando City because Orlando’s Citrus Bowl has artificial turf, which would be hard on the 37-year-old’s knees.
“He’s not comfortable playing on artificial turf,” Impact coach Mauro Biello said Wednesday.
