A 25-year-old dry cleaner, Usman Dala, who allegedly stole his friend’s motorcycle valued at N125,000, was on Wednesday charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The accused, who resides at No.18, Sanusi Safura St., Obalende on Lagos Island, is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 25 at about 2.30 a.m. at A.B.M Quarters, off Iju Road, Agege, a Lagos suburb.

According to him, the accused stole a motorcycle with registration no. JGB 475 VW, property of Mohammed Goni.

“The complainant said he and the accused were living together before he moved to Obalende area of Lagos.

“The accused stole the motorcycle when he visited the complainant in Agege which was parked in front of a mosque.

“The accused was later apprehended at Obalende with the motorcycle,’’ he said.

The offences contravened Sections 166 and 285 (10) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 166 provides a fine of N45, 000 or three months imprisonment or both, while Section 285 prescribes a seven-year jail term for stealing a motorcycle or vehicle.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mr A.J. Adegun, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to June 10 for trial. (NAN)
