Kano Pillars basketball Head Coach, Ahmed Sani, has revealed that his side humiliating defeat in the hands of Mark Mentors during one of the matches decided in the Nation’s DSTV basketball matches was due to lack of regular training and adequate welfare package for both players and officials.
Sani who spoke to Nigerian Pilot sports also pointed that the absence of their key player and captain equally dealt a heavy blow to his team.
Abuja-based Mark Mentors led Kano Pillars in all quarters and finally walloped top flight all time champions 97-67 at the end of the tricky encounter witnessed by sizeable spectators who trooped out to catch a glimpse of dunking and slamming game.
Thirty points victory recorded by the Mark Mentors proved superb for Coach Peter Ahmedu-led side that has never won Pillars by such margin in their previous meetings.
Coach Sani whose team showed supremacy over Mentors in their first leg match in Kano lamented “even at the international level, I have not been beaten by this wide margin. My players gave up easily may be because they are fasting.”
On his part, Coach Ahmedu hailed his boys performance describing the victory as a surprise to him.
His words “I am actually surprised and overwhelmed with the wide margin…of course we had our strategy plan because Kano pillars are no small team with their chemistry and togetherness. We told our boys to put a great performance and be focused and that is how it always bee when we play pillar.
“We see Kano Pillar like every other team in our conference and like every other team in Nigeria, there is nothing special about them, they are the champion, you cannot take that away from them. Any time they play against Mark Mentors, they are always uncomfortable because of the philosophy and chemistry of our team.”
