Golden Eaglets resilient defender, Lukman Zakari says the team’s success at the FIFA U-17 World Cup shows Nigeria has a brighter future.
The defender, who shone like a million star in the Eaglets backline, and made the number 5 jersey a delight at the World Cup commended the coaches for believing in the players.
“We have great talents in the country, and our football is now a reference point in World football. The coaches also show that we are technically on top of the pack,” he said.
“Throughout the World Cup, we had no doubt about winning matches because we were well motivated by coach Amuneke. The loss to Croatia was even surprising to us, but the coach helped us overcome such momentarily set back immediately.
“The players should move out of Academy to clubs to improve on their outputs. It is the only they can improve on their games beyond the World Cup feat. If a player does not play regularly, it would be difficult to keep up with the tempo,” he said.
