Ebonyi State House of Assembly has recommended for immediate sack of the 13 caretaker chairmen as well as the treasurers, cashiers and heads of works departments of virtually all the local government areas of the state for involving themselves in the mismanagement of funds belonging to their respective councils.
Only the treasurers of Ezza South, Mr. Vincent Nweke, was absolved, but his counterpart in Ohaozara is to be demoted. Also, internal auditors of Onicha, Ikwo and Ezza South LGAs were to be relieved of their positions and redeployed to another schedule for incompetence just as their counterparts in Ohaozara and Ivo were relieved of their positions and demoted as punishment.
Although, before the House passed the resolution yesterday against the embattled principal Officers of the LGAs,the state Governor, Chief Dave Umahi had on Monday 22,2015, sacked the embattled 13 caretaker chairmen and the 64 Development Centres of the state.
The House not only directed the embattled officers to refund the looted funds, it also urged the state Governor, Umahi to apply every lawful means to recover the looted fund from the past and present principal officers indicted by the report and be prosecuted for dishonesty and fraud.
The resolution was sequel to the report of the ad-hoc committee investigating the financial transactions of the 13 caretaker chairmen and the 64 development centres which recommended the sack of the embattled Officers over alleged financial improprieties running into millions of naira.
According to the findings of the ad-hoc committee chaired by the Deputy Speaker of the House, a huge financial fraud was uncovered in the state local government system between the period of November 2014 and April 2015 in which the investigation covered.
The findings of the committee also revealed that the scam revolves around the immediate past Commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters, Hon. Celestine Nwali, as well as all the ousted 13 local government councils caretaker chairmen.
Others indicted by the report who are said to have been involved in the shoddy deals include the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of local government and chieftaincy matters, Dr. PCI Umoke, Treasurers, Cashiers and HODs of works of virtually all the Local government councils.
