Ebonyi State House of Assembly yesterday constituted a committee to investigate the activities of Ministry of Works under former Governor Martin Elechi.
The 12-man committee headed by Mr. Humphery Nwuruku, representing Ikwo North state constituency, is to investigate all ongoing projects inherited from Elechi by the incumbent Governor Dave Umahi.
Announcing the members of the committee at Tuesday plenary, the speaker, Hon. Francis Nwifuru charged them to do proper investigation on the activities of the ministry, especially as it concerns the ongoing projects awarder by the administration of former Governor Elechi.
The committee is expected to look into the financial transactions and award of contracts by the ministry, especially within the four years of Elechi’s administration at which period Engr. Chukwuma Nwandugo was the Works Commissioner.
The House also confirmed Governor Umahi’s nomination of the former Commissioner for Education, Culture and Tourism, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor as the new chairman of the state Universal Education Board, UBEB, and the nomination of former local government chairman and Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Chief Jossy Eze as the new chairman of the state electoral commission (EBSIEC).
Equally, the House confirmed the appointments of the pioneer Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, and wife of former deputy governor, Mrs. Catherine Ogbu, as chairman of the Civil Service Commission, and the appointment of former state chairman of PDP, Chief Ugo Orji Amaoti, as chairman of the state Board of Internal Revenue, BIR.
The speaker, however, directed the clerk of the House to make a memo to Governor Umahi informing him that his nominees had been confirmed and found fit for onward appointment into the respective areas.
