Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC Ebonyi State command said 75 per cent of drivers in the state operate with fake or expired driver’s licence.
It also said about 50 per cent of heavy-duty vehicle drivers plying federal highways in the state operate without drivers licence.
The state sector commander, Mr. Charles Aborchi, who made this known while briefing newsmen shortly after sensitising tipper drivers in Abakaliki, said the statistics, followed a research conducted by the corps in the state.
He noted that the research also revealed that drivers of heavy-duty vehicles often flout road traffic rules on the roads, which he maintained prompted the sensitisation exercise as part of the effort to reduce carnage on the roads.
Aborchi identified poor registration of vehicles, indiscriminate parking and the use of counterfeit licence by the drivers as part of concern to the corps and warned motorists in the state against such sharp practices.
“If you don’t have driving licence, why would you drive on the road? This has been a problem to us and we are not happy about it,” he said.
