Ebonyi state government has assured tax payers in the state that it would adhere strictly to the provisions of the law as well as the international best practices in levying and collecting taxes in the state.
This was made known by the state Auditor General for local government, Barrister George Ukpai while fielding questions from journalists in Abakaliki.
Mr. Ukpai who is also the state chairman of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria gave the assurance on Thursday during the inauguration of a member of the State Revenue Board, Mr. Njoku Onu by Governor David Umahi at the Exco Chambers, Government House, Abakaliki.
Mr. Ukpai noted that the revenue potential of the state was high ,regretting that it has not been fully harnessed because the state Assembly had not enacted the enabling laws .
“Indeed the enactment of this revenue law of the state is a long-awaited law. It had held so many things down in the state. Everything about revenue in the state is embedded in law and having enacted this law, the revenue potential of the state has been unlocked,” he said.
He however assured that with the laws and the revenue board now in place, the revenue drive of the state is bound to increase tremendously.
Mr. Ukpai further expressed confidence in the ability of the chairman and members of the board to boost the internally generated revenue of the state to provide funds for the government to deliver its campaigns promises to the people.
