Ebonyi State Government has shut down, Brifina Garden, a hotel located along water works Road Abakaliki, over alleged reports of illicit activities such as prostitution, pornography, sodomy wanton selling and consumption of drugs and other prohibited substances.
Speaking after sealing off the hotel at that weekend, a Senior Special Adviser to Governor Dave Umahi on Security, Chief Ali Odefa said when information got to his office on the illicit activities going on in the hotel during nightclub, he invited the manager and managers of other clubs involved in such acts to his office and informed them that government was not happy with such activities.
According to Odefa, manager of the said Garden had been warned to correct anomalies but he still allowed the illicit activities to continue.
Parading girls who dance naked while some objects are inserted into their vagina just to entertain their viewers is one of the reason why the state government took the decision.
He said why the closure affected only Brifina is that other club managers where such immoral activities take place obeyed the directives of the government.
Odefa maintained that the illicit activities in the hotel have posed security threat to the state as all manner of people patronize the hotel.
“Brifina Gardens is notorious for criminal hideouts, severally, security agencies have made some arrest of criminals inside Brifina Garden, and it’s a festering nest for criminals and that is what we don’t want, that is the reason why we sealed it,” he disclosed.
Manager of the club, Chinenye Okorie admitted the hotel was put in place to entertain people, and she pays every performer N10,000 each to dance naked in the club on Wednesdays, while she pays any girl who dances naked on Fridays N15,000.
She added that every week, it costs her N25, 000 to settle each of the girls that dances naked on stage to entertain her customers.
She admitted that she was warned by government to stop the business but wanted the government to formally write the company.
“I was invited by the SSA on Security and he told me to stop my business and I told them to write to the company. This is Nigeria and anybody can go for any employment so long as you are earning money and you don’t steal or prostitute.
“This is someone’s business. Someone is feeding from this and the right thing needs to be done, I’m not challenging the State Government” she affirmed.
One of the girls who were arrested in the premises who simply gave her name as Chidinma said she was Coordinator of the stripers and that she arranges boys from Lagos each week who are hired to dance naked with the girls.
Chidinma corroborated the claim of the club manager that each dancer goes home with N10, 000 on Wednesdays and N15,000 on Fridays, making it a total of N25,000 a week.
