Residents and people living in and around Warri, Delta State, are also feeling the effects of the present harsh economy as the economic crisis is already affecting the living standard of majority of Nigerians.
Hunger and poverty in the land is now the slogan or common word from the mouth of the residents, especially those whose businesses have been seriously affected.
It is worrisome that most private companies in Warri, have been sacking their workers.
Some motorists and residents in Warri, who spoke to Saturday PILOT, said the situation is getting worst but expressed hope that things would get better.
According to them, the price of food stuffs had gone high and there is no money to even buy the food items.
A Lagos based businessman and Delta State born indigene, who spoke to our Correspondent on phone said “ the economy is really unstable now, we are labour employers and as I speak we are dropping majority of our workers and how would those dropped care for their families, it is a serious situation”.
The chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to take drastic measure to quickly address the situation.
But a renowned Economist and a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Prof. Pat Utomi said past administrations were responsible for present predicament of Nigerians.
He described the excruciating level of poverty and unemployment in the country as very sad and heart breaking.
Utomi, who spoke in Warri, however blamed past governments for the prevailing hunger and increasing rate of youths unemployment in the country, nothing that over reliance on oil against diversification of the economy affected the growth of the other sector which could have created jobs for the youth.
