Rumors of allegations that the Ovia South West local council chairman, Mr. Morrison Ogunrobo has been misappropriating public funds from internal revenues belonging to the council through his personal bank accounts has attracted a petition from revenue collectors.‎
Based on the petition, the legislative arm of the Council has asked Chairman Ogunorobo and his secretary, Ken Idahosa, to appear before it this week to explain their roles in the alleged misappropriation of revenues belonging to the Council, running into millions of Naira.
The petition, from the Law from of lawyers, G. A. Izevbigie & Co and signed by Barrister A.I Amasowomuan is dated 3th August,
2015 and on the behalf of Mr Dan Owegie, jnr and Mr Harrison Ogunorobo, who say they have been collecting revenue for the Council, accused the duo of embezzling monies belonging to the council by diverting same to unidentified personal bank accounts.
The petition said, “We are informed by our clients that they were appointed by Ovia South west local government Council as coordinators of internally generated revenue collectors for the said council in charge revenue collection at Jojo Rock pit at Evbonogbon and that such money be collected and paid to the Councils bank account weekly. The said sum is N250, 000 weekly which amounts to One million monthly; this our client has been paying religiously”.
“We are also informed by our clients that when they discovered that people were no longer coming to Jojo rocks pit buy granites, they protested to the present chairman and the secretary of the council of their predicament and they instructed our client to be paying N500,000 to the Council and in cash to the secretary Ken Idahosa”.
