Edo State House of Assembly which has been sitting at the old legislative chambers inside the governor’s office, Benin City, since June 2014, is to resume plenary at the Chief Tony Enahoro legislative complex on Ring Road next week.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Uyi Igbe who gave this indication on Tuesday directed the staff of the assembly who were with them to resume at the complex next week.
Nigerian Pilot reports that the assembly workers relocated to the premises of the state assembly commission inside the legislators’ quarters following the crises that engulfed the assembly in June 2014.
Igbe also directed that prior to the relocation of the workers, all offices at the complex be opened while necessary repairs, including fumigation, be carried out before next week.
Meanwhile, at Wednesday’s plenary, a bill for a law to amend the Edo State University of Science and Technolgy, Iyamoh-Uzairue scaled through first reading.
Also at the session, the speaker summoned the chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government to appear before the house Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs tomorrow, April 24.
Though reason for the summon was not disclosed by the speaker, indications are that it may not be unconnected with a petition about the activities of the council boss.
