Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State has suspended one-time deputy governor and former state vice chairman (Edo South) of the party, Chief Lucky Imasuen, and two other members for anti-party activities.
The two members are former Deputy Chairman, Hon Christopher Adesotu and former Organising Secretary, Mr Richard Ehimagbi.
The suspended members have been directed to appear before a Disciplinary Committee of the Party tomorrow Monday, September 21, 2015 in accordance with the party constitution.
A statement signed by the PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr Chris Nehikhare, said the decision was “In the spirit of rebirth and reorganisation of the PDP and in line with the solemn pledge to bequeath a responsible and responsive government to Edo people in 2016.”
The Party also commended the Edo State National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal for reaffirming the victory of Senators Matthew Uroghide (Edo South Senatorial District) and Clifford Ordia (Edo Central Senatorial District) in the March 28 senatorial election.
“The party congratulates Senators Uroghide and Ordia on their victory at the Tribunal and restates its confidence in the Judiciary as the last bastion of hope for the citizens.
“Indeed, the outcome of the National Assembly election, which saw PDP winning two of the three senate seats and five of the nine House of Representatives seats, is a clear indication that Edo people have rejected the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s administration.”
The statement regretted the party’s inability to replicate the same feat in the April 11 House of Assembly election alleging that some senior leaders and party members were compromised by the APC government to subvert the will of Edo people.
“These leaders and members have not been able to account for the funds provided by the PDP for mobilisation during the election. The PDP particularly views as unfortunate a situation where a state vice chairman traded in his polling unit and ward to the APC without any feeling,” it said stressing that the party objects to Imaseun’s secret meeting with members of the opposition party at Government House.
Meanwhile, the former Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Imasuen, a State Deputy Chairman of the Party, Chief Christopher Adesotu, a former PDP member of House of Representatives, Hon John Abolagba, in a swift reaction defected from the PDP to the APC.
The party leaders led over 5,000 of their supporters to decamp the APC and were received into the party by Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
Giving reasons why they decamped, Imasuen said the PDP has fallen apart following the impressive performances of the APC government in the state.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole who gave them brooms, thanked the decampees for their decision to join the All Progressives Congress, assured that they would be granted equal opportunities as founding members of the party.
“Today, the only political elephant that is left in the PDP has decided with his brothers and sisters across the three senatorial districts to formally renounce their membership of the PDP so that they can realign, readjust and reintegrate with the progressives under the APC platform.
“In APC, we will do everything we can to integrate you into our control structures and to ensure that like other members of the APC, you will get what is due to you.
“Let me assure you on behalf of the party that we are not welcoming you by lips but by our hearts and working together to ensure continuous good governance in Edo State and under the leadership of President Buhari, now that you have joined us, the broom has become stronger”.
