Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Victor Sabor Edoror, has condemned the decision of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, to make vehicle users bear the financial burden of acquiring new vehicle number plates even as the Corps advocated for the reinstatement of Edo State Traffic Management Agency.
The call was made when Edo State FRSC command, led by the sector commander, Corps Commander Oluwasusi Familoni paid a courtesy visit on the Speaker.
The Sector Commander congratulated the Speaker on his victory at the poll and also on his election as the Speaker. He suggested that EDSTMA be re organised and FRSC be made to undertake a special training of EDSTMA staff so as to make them more effective and efficient in checking traffic related offences.
Familoni said, ‘’We are here to felicitate with you on your election as the Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, to partner with EDHA on advocacy of FRSC on the way forward on reducing the mishaps on our roads.’’
He said accidents and crashes are two different things, as accidents occur as a result of carelessness, or neglect on the part of the victims while crashes occur as a result of circumstances beyond the control of the victims.
Edo sector Corps Commander of FRSC, requested that the Speaker should create a forum where FRSC can meet with honourable members of EDHA in a bid for FRSC to have an easy access to all the different constituencies and be able to educate the people in their constituencies on proper precautionary measures with the aim of averting or minimizing road crashes and accidents.
Familoni, who hailed the introduction of the new car plate number, as it is a computerized system that enables FRSC to do a proper tracking of traffic offenders, warned against obtaining the driver’s licence by proxy as licenses that are so obtained are fake.
In his response, the Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly thanked FRSC team for coming to felicitate with him. He gracefully accepted and granted the partnership of EDHA with FRSC, saying, the safety of the lives of Nigerians should be paramount in the minds of leaders.
