EDO women were yesterday enjoined to rally support and vote for the PDP governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu on September 10 2016,  because he is a credible gentleman who can be trusted to operate a women-friendly government. Director-general of Forum of Uncommon Women In Edo, FUWE, Barrister (Mrs) Philomena Ihenyen,   who was a front-runner for the deputy governorship slot in the PDP spoke to a coalition of women NGOs who yesterday paid her a solidarity visit in her residence. Ihenyen  said that the party elders and leaders who opted for a choice other than her person acted wisely in that they felt her time has not come adding that Edo women as mothers, wives, sisters and daughters, can also be rest assured that an Ize-Iyamu governorship will better their lot. “I have found out that politics is a moral game. I had told the party leaders that if they wanted to consider me for the deputy governorship, the party must ensure that Pastor Ize-Iyamu emerges candidate. I am happy because he won and he is a gentleman that we can trust”. She said not  becoming the PDP running mate did not change anything because the candidate has identified with the women even as he has promised to carry them along in his government and allow them play active roles under his leadership With over 54% of the voting population in the state, Ihenyen said that if women united and agreed to carry Ize-Iyamu on their backs, they can be rest assured that the incoming PDP government in the state will be their own government. Leader of the women Mrs Mariam Jubril said the campaign to have a woman as running mate in the PDP dates back to a year and the collation settled for Ihenyen because she has all that it takes. She appreciated Mrs Ihenyen for accepting to lead Edo women when she was prevailed upon and assured her of continued support in the run- off to the September 10 2016elections, though she did not get nominated for the deputy governorship slot. Earlier Secretary of FUWE Dr Tawa Idugboe assured the women that, “the journey has just begun and our Labour shall not be in vain. It is bye-bye to the days when women in politics are seen only singing, clapping and dancing …we want to be seen and heard in government”. Edo state women leader of the PDP, Mrs Eghe Tes Sorae also speaking said women must mobilize themselves to turn out en masse to vote for the PDP candidate on the date of the governorship elections if they desire to be carried along in the new dispensation. NGOs Present during the solidarity visit included Osarogue women, Esan Women in politics, Edo women for Positive Action, League of Women Voters, Edo Modern Women for Good Governance amongst others
