The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Nigerians to use the occasion of Eid el-Kabir to rededicate themselves to the values that unite the country.
The call is contained in a statement issued by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, in Abuja on Wednesday.
The party also urged Nigerians to use the period to resist all vices that sought to weaken their bond of unity as a people.
The party further urged citizens irrespective of their religious persuasions to pray for abiding peace and unity in the country.
The party also urged all Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect on the virtue of faith, service and total submission to the will of Almighty God.
It said such sense of commitment was “ exemplified by the Holy Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his only son, Ishmael in obedience to God’s command.”
The party added that this period once again provided Nigerians a great opportunity to pray for leaders of the nation.
“Indeed, the Eid El-Kabir, while teaching great lessons in faith in the Almighty God, also provides us the opportunity to humble ourselves as a people and seek God’s intervention for our dear country.
“We must, therefore, seize this divine doorway and collectively pray for our leaders to be divinely guided against actions and inactions that tend to divide the nation, create tension and threaten our bond.
The party wished all Nigerians happy Eid el-Kabir and urged them to continue to consider the less-privileged in their celebrations and at all times.
It also urged the APC-led Federal Government to make haste to chart a course of governance in the economy and other sectors of the polity and commerce.
The party said it would remain committed to national interest by providing credible and issue-based opposition. (NAN)
