Leadership of the Ekiti State House of Assembly has indicated interest to sanction the All Progressives Congress, APC, publicity secretary, Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun, over his uncomplimentary remarks against the new lawmakers in the state.
Olatubosun, was a deputy speaker of the assembly between 2003 and 2007 during the first tenure of Mr. Ayo Fayose as the governor of the state.
It would be recalled that Olatubosun, issued a statement on behalf of his party casting aspersions on the personality of the lawmakers, describing them as ‘miscreants” and not fit to be members of the assembly.
At its maiden press conference held in Ado Ekiti yesterday, the lawmakers described the statement issued by Olatubosun as disappointing and embarrassing considering the fact that the APC spokesman was a former member of the assembly and ought not to ridicule the image of the assembly.
The lawmakers said the present 5th Assembly was composed of professionals who had made their marks before venturing into active politics.
The press conference jointly addressed by the ad hoc committee on information made up of Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan, Hon. Shina Animashaun, and Hon. Samuel Omotosho, also said that they had no apology to make to the APC for their loyalty to the governor through whom they said they got to their present position through his “uncommon leadership style.”
Hon Omotosho said “he, Olatubosun, as a former member of this assembly should hold this honourable House in a very high esteem and hold the sacredness of this assembly in high place. This is an assembly that developed him to the stage he is today. We will sit very soon to come up with an appropriate sanction against him.
“The newly inaugurated members of the 5th Assembly are men of honour who will not want to take issues with the APC on the credentials of those who are currently representing Ekiti people in the assembly. Rather, we would advise the APC members to look back and tell the whole world if the APC G19 lawmakers were men of honour and integrity. They should tell the whole world whether many of the so called APC assembly members who nearly threw the state into confusion, were indeed educated and men of legislative acumen.”
The lawmakers described many of the former APC lawmakers as “certificated fraudsters and dropouts” who ended their tenure in the assembly ingloriously.
