A businessman and a Pastor from the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Biodun Bakare, has called on the All Progressives Congress Lawmakers, APC, in Ekiti State to emulate President Goodluck Jonathan, by putting an end to the impeachment plot against Governor Ayo Fayose.
Pastor Bakare, who is an indigene of Ekiti State, said President Jonathan accepted the outcome of the March 28 presidential election by congratulating Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, in spite of the shortcomings that characterised the conduct of the elections.
He noted that the lawmakers should replicate such gesture in Ekiti, to end the impeachment fever in the State and provide enabling environment for development in all facets.
Bakare, made the remarks at a press conference he held with newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Friday while commenting on the impeachment crisis rocking the Ekiti State House of Assembly.
He pointed out that the impeachment crisis had created a negative impression about the State in the eyes of other Nigerian, saying the time to drop the impeachment plot is now, so that the state can stand united and be peaceful.
“In the history of democracy, where did you hear that a governor who came to office barely three months is being made to face impeachment?” he asked.
Bakare warned that the APC must stop rebuffing the peace efforts initiated by illustrious citizens of the state, including Chief Afe Babalola, SAN, and Deji Fasuan, adding that he has also begun another peace process as an individual to mediate in the crisis.
“These lawmakers must emulate President Jonathan who accepted a cheap victory recorded by Gen. Buhari in the presidential poll.
“Ekiti is larger than any narrow or parochial interest of individuals. Fayose should be allowed to govern the State and disallow the outsiders from painting this crisis in different colours,” he said.
