PSC redeploys promotes AIGS, 37 CPS

No fewer than 5,000 policemen have been deployed by the Ekiti State Police Command to ensure a peaceful local council election in 16 local governments today, seven years after the last one was held in the state.
The police Public Relations Officer, PRO, in Ekiti, Mr Alberto Adeyemi, who made the disclosure yesterday, added that the policemen would work in conjunction with other sister agencies like the Department of State Service, Nigeria Prison Service, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service and others.
Adeyemi, warned trouble makers to steer clear of the elections, promising that the command would deal with whoever was found perpetrating criminal acts during the polls.
Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission, EKSIEC, said the commission was prepared for a free, fair and peaceful election in the state, promising a level playing ground for all.
The SIEC chairman, Justice Kayode Bamisile, said five political parties, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, KOWA, African People Alliance, United Peoples Party and Peoples Party of Nigeria, are participating while the main opposition party in the state, the All Progressives Party, APC, will not participate in the election.
Also, about 7,000 officials of State Independent Electoral Commission, made up of regular and ad-hoc staff, would supervise the elections in 2195 polling units spread across the 177 wards in the state.
Adeyemi said the police would ensure compliance to the restriction order placed on vehicular and human movements between 8am and 4pm, adding that 1,500 men have been posted to all the local governments to compliment what they have there.
The police PRO and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr. Tolulope Afolabi, said his men had been fully deployed in all the 16 local government areas of the state for the election.
