Former Super Eagles midfield ace, Friday Ekpo taunted Nasarawa United Coach, Kabiru Dogo for blaming the floodlight after his wards went down 2-0 to Akwa United in this season’s first ‘Friday Night Football at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
“Both teams played under floodlight. The Premier League organizers duly notified the teams of the decision to stage the encounter under floodlight without any objection. So, it is laughable for a head coach to blame the floodlight for defeat,’’ said Ekpo who was at the stadium to watch the epic clash.
“Floodlight should not be an excuse because Akwa United too, have never played under floodlight before now. We’re used to the Nigerian league kicking off at 4pm. In stadia where we have floodlights, teams should be encouraged to stage their games in the evening. It will enhance large crowd attendance,’’ added Ekpo.
Two superb goals, one in each half reinforced Akwa United’s survival bid as they dispelled visiting Nasarawa United 2-0 at the Nest of Champions Uyo in the Glo Premier League’s first Friday Night game.
Aniekpeno Udoh got the opener at 35 minutes and after a sustained period of dominance by the visitors, Yusuf Adio floated home a brilliant second ending the game as a contest.
Coach Dogo has, however, already led Nasarawa United to break long-standing 100% home record of Pillars and that of Sunshine Stars.
