Senator representing Borno North, Abubakar Kyari has assured Nigerians that the National Assembly was working hard to amend the necessary parts of the constitution and electoral laws to address most electoral deficiencies before the end of this year.
Senator Kyari, who is also chairman of Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,) said the National Assembly needed to address the electoral issues at least two years before the 2019 general elections.
“Recently, we had a public hearing where all stakeholders meet and discuss a lot of electoral issue such as independent candidates, card reader and death of the candidate before the declaration of result as experienced in Kogi state,” the lawmaker stated.
He said “all these proposed amendment we want to address them before the end of the 2016 and accented to by President, at least two years before 2019 general elections, as we don’t want what happen in last administration when the former President signed into law some electoral laws on 26th March, 2015, two days before the general elections.”
On his achievements, Senator Kyari said he was going to pay the registration fees of 50 students each at tertiary institutions in Internally Displaced Persons camps in 10 local government areas of his senatorial zone.
He said education is the best thing he can give to his society, that was why he sponsored the total of 500 students for eight weeks to sat for WAEC Exams in the 2015 and 2016, pointing out that they are going scrutinized their result to make sure that only best students were sponsored for further education.
