Like it is freedom day for Nigeria as a sovereign state, October 1st, the same liberty came the way of Mrs Margaret Emefiele, wife of the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele as she regains freedom from her abductors..
She was abducted by gunmen who attacked her convoy in Ugoneki along Benin Agbor highway few kilometers to her hometown Agbor in Delta state. She however regained freedom less than 24hours, after her kidnap following a crackdown on the hoodlums by a crack team of police deployed by the inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris.
Sources told the Nigerian Pilot Sunday that Mrs Emefiele and other hostages were released n the early hours of Saturday following a massive police manhunt for the criminals in the area
She was on her way from Lagos toAgbor her hometown Friday September 30, when her vehicle was attacked by heavily armed men.
The sources said that contacts were later established between her family members and the abductors who demanded for huge sums as ransom.
But a swift move, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, deployed helicopters along the Benin-Agbor Road in a bid to track the abductors.
The IGP’s team led by Abba Kyari put pressure on the kidnappers, by also deploying a large number of operatives and sniffer dogs. However high level investigation into the kidnap has commenced in order to unmask the criminals
