Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Honourable Edward Ubosi has said that before the end of his tenure as speaker of the legislative assembly, he would digitalise the votes and proceedings of the House for easier access to all and sundry.
“I met a House which its votes and proceedings are done manually and I must make sure that I leave an e-house before the end of my tenure.
“If you want to retrieve some information about members who have been in this House, you will find out that some of them have been torn or soaked by water,” Ubosi pointed.
Ubosi, who disclosed in an interview with newsmen at a dinner party organised by an Enugu based social club, Cordial Friends Association, Nike Enugu, held at Nike Lake Resort Hotel, Enugu, at the weekend, said he would leave an indelible mark in the House which digilalising of votes and proceedings would be one of them.
Ubosi also disclosed that when the votes and proceedings had been digitalised, the contributions of members could be retrieved even after a member must have left the House by mere pressing or clicking the computer.
He said that the House under his watch would not engage the executive in open confrontation rather they would dialogue to streamline issues.
“You don’t need to quarrel with the executive, instead you engage them. Whatever you are doing, you engage the executive for the benefit of the state.”
Ubosi posited that the autonomy of legislature would have helped the assemblies to carry out their functions well without resorting to the executive for their financial engagements.
He, however, regretted that efforts made to grant the legislature financial autonomy had not borne fruit in the meantime.
The speaker said that the Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi-led administration is new and so is the cabinet, but when they had taken full charge of the ministries, they would embark on aggressive oversight function.
