Champions Enyimba defeated Shooting Stars 2-0 and FC IfeanyiUbah pipped Nasarawa in rescheduled Nigeria league matches played on Wednesday.
In other matches, Akwa United stunned hosts El Kanemi 3-1 and Wikki were truly at home with a 4-0 spanking of Warri Wolves.
Abu Azeez fired Enyimba in front after 33 minutes with lovely finish, before on-form Joseph Osadiaye doubled their advantage two minutes from time with an assist from Mfon Udoh.
It was a sweet home coming for coach Kadiri Ikhana, who guided Enyimba to a record seventh league crown last season before his contract was not renewed.
IfeanyiUbah’s match winner against struggling Nasarawa was Kofi Nti after six minutes.
Wikki were comfortable winners at home thanks to a brace by Idris Mohammed and additional goals by Harrison Madu and Godwin Obaje.
Speaking after the match, Wikki Tourists coach Abdul Maikaba commended his boys for the superlative match and urged the team’s to always support the team from the blast of the whistle to the end.
Akwa United raced to a 3-0 lead with goals from Emeka Isaac, Ubong Ekpai and Chigozie Emmanuel.
Home team El Kanemi missed a penalty through Yakubu Auta in the seventh minute, before they pulled a goal back through Ibrahim Mustapha.
