FORMER Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant-General Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd) has been arrested by operatives of the DSS – The ex-army boss was reportedly
picked up last night, June 21 at his residence in Maitama, Abuja. It is believed that Mr Ihejerika was arrested in connection with alleged arms deal probe involving former national
security adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki. Recall that an Australian Negotiator, Dr Stephen Davis insisted that former governor of Borno State, Modu Sheriff and former Chief of Army Staff, General Onyeabo Azubuike Ihejirika are Boko Haram sponsors. But Ihejirika described the allegations against him as frivolous and unfounded. He said the allegation was meant to divert the attention of the country and its security agencies thereby causing division. It should be recalled that the Presidential Committee on Defence Equipment Procurement in the Nigerian Armed Forces extended its investigations to the tenure of three former Chiefs of Army Staff (COAS) – Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazzau, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika and Lt.-Gen. Kenneth Minimah over procurement of arms, ammunition and equipment from 2007 to 2015. The panel has summoned over 292 serving and retired top officers who worked with the three former Army chiefs The committee has also asked more than 10 local and foreign companies to appear before it. They include the Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria (DICON). It is not known at time of going to press if his arrest has to do with that investigation
