Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have commenced investigation into the alleged N50billion allegedly stolen under the administration of the immediate past governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime.
The operatives had last week quizzed the former governor’s Chief of Staff, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo, following her invitation by the EFCC to make some clarification on alleged money laundering, embezzlement and theft.
The invitation of Mrs. Nwobodo was said to be the beginning of a comprehensive probe into the administration of Chime.
An EFCC source said Mrs. Nwobodo arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja last week to respond to issues raised against her and her.
The source added: “The former Chief of Staff was ushered into the interrogation room to meet a team of detectives. The allegations border essentially on conspiracy, money laundering, and misappropriation of public funds and abuse of office.
“Her invitation is the beginning of the probe of numerous allegations against the administration of ex-governor Chime.
“We have so many petitions against the former governor. But since his Chief of Staff was central to the coordination of government activities, we needed to hear from her first,” the source said.
He added that Chime will be arraigned before a Federal High Court in Enugu as soon as judges returned from their annual vacations.
