Former Ministers of Science and Technology have called on the Muhammadu Buhari administration to make science and technology the cornerstone for the nation’s development and wealth creation.
They made this call during an interactive session with the current Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu in his office in Abuja.
The ministers in attendance were Alhaji Abdulahi Ibrahim (SAN); General Sam Momah (rtd); Dr. Pauline Tallen; Prof. Turner Isoun; Chief Grace Ekpiwehre and the immediate past minister, Dr. Abdu Bulama.
The ex-ministers said if science and technology were properly explored, they would become the nation’s inexhaustible oil for the future, the cornerstone of development, wealth creation and undoubtedly create jobs in an unprecedented manner for the teeming youths in the country.
They enjoined the minister whom they described as a “round peg in a round hole” to use his wealth of experience to change the fortune of the ministry by making it receive priority from the government as well as change the poor perception from the public.
In conclusion, they commended the Minister for the initiative, which they described as first of its kind in the annals of the ministry.
Earlier, Onu expressed his appreciation to the former ministers and assured them that the government was determined to use science and technology to solve some national challenges especially in the areas of economy, security and the rule of law.
He solicited for the continued cooperation of the former ministers noting, “It is important to know about the past to be able to move forward.”
