A FORMER Member of the
Nasarawa State House of
Assembly, Hon. Francis Orogu,
has emerged the new chairman
of the Peoples Democratic Party,
PDP in the state.
Orogu was declared winner
at the state congress of the party
by secretary of the PDP electoral
congress committee, Sabo
Danladi-Sunday in the state in the
early hours of Wednesdayafter
defeating two other candidates.
He announced that the winner,
Hon. Orogu polled 298 votes to
defeat Barr Hassan Yakubu and
Danjuma Musa who got 187 and
4 votes respectively.
Politics
According to the Danladi-Sunday,
Orogu scored the highest number of
votes and has met the requirements
of the law hence he was declared as
the new PDP Chairman in Nasarawa
state.
The congress electoral committee
secretary explained that only
three positions which were
Chairmanship, Public Relations
Officer, PRO and Secretary were
contested for, while others were
returned unopposed.
“For the Secretary position,
Adamu Bako has polled 173 votes
to defeat Dr Maijama Kwoso and
Abdullahi Rinze who scored 172
and 63 votes.
“While Umar Bala polled 178
votes to emerge as PRO after
defeating Mohammed Akwai and
Usman Aliyu who scored 137 and
26 respectively,”
Reacting to his victory, Orogu
expressed gratitude to the delegates
and indeed leaders of the party
for the confidence reposed in him
and promised to unite the party,
calling on the candidates that loss in
the election to join hands with him
in order to reclaim lost glory of the
party.
Orogu who hails from Keana local
government area of the state had
rejected the decision of his party that
zoned the chairmanship position
to Keana local government area of
the state and insisted in testing his
popularity in the contest which he
eventually emerged victorious
