A communication expert, Mr. Taiwo Obe, has urged newsmen in the country to utilise the evolving modern technologies to enhance their productivity and enrich their pockets.
Obe, a Commonwealth Fellow and Founder, Journalism Clinic made the declaration in Ibadan at a one-day seminar on digitalisation organised for newsmen by Skye bank Plc.
“The world has changed technologically and has disrupted efforts surrounding news gathering by professionals,” he said.
Obe said that the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, in January had reported that 83 million Nigerians were active internet users.
“Over 70percent of Nigeria’s current population estimated at 174 million are under the age of 30 and are all digitally aware,” he said.
He urged newsmen in the country to make efficient and effective use of the various modern technologies, adding that the country remained the largest mobile market in Africa and 10th in the world.
Earlier in his remarks, Mr. Rasheed Bolarinwa, Head of Corporate Communications, Skye Bank Plc, said that the bank initiated the seminar to broaden the knowledge of newsmen in the new global trend.
He urged participants to make good use of whatever they acquired at the seminar in developing themselves and their various organisations.
