Chairman of the Kashimbila Resort Project, Director of Dams and Reservoir Operations of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Abuja, Engr. Reginald Ikpeawujo has said the Kashimbila multipurpose Dam in Takum Local Government Area, Taraba State if harnessed will go a long way to improve Nigeria’s tourism potentials.
According to Engr. Ikpeawujo, the project which was started by the Goodluck Jonathan administration can be utilised as a tourist destination.
He stated that the dam has a hydropower component of about 40 megawatts, irrigation potentials of about 2000 hectares of land and a capacity to contain 500 million cubic meters of water.
Also, Project Manager, Engr. Micheal Rolben said that the proposed Kashimbila Resort Project when completed would include, Visitors’ Center for ticketing, exhibition gallery and gallery of arts and crafts.
He further stated that, it would have a mini theatre attached to the visitors ‘centre, an Eco-lodge accommodation system and Ecotourism encompassing natural landmarks with man -made attractions such as fishing, boating, camping, horse riding and bird viewing amongst others.
Secretary of the Technical Committee of the project, Dorothy Duruaku said that the entire concept of the dam is huge and would be ideal for tourism. She explained that existing facilities on the dam can be used to develop an eco-lodge.
