About 190 contract staff have been sacked by Mobil Producing Nigeria, MPN, Unlimited, operator of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC/ MPN Joint Venture in its Qua Iboe Terminal in Ibeno local government of Akwa Ibom.
The sacked workers, including 40 drivers told newsmen yesterday in Ibeno that the development had devastated them and their families while lamenting incessant sack of workers by the company.
A sacked driver, Mr. Frank Etebong, however, said that ExxonMobil had paid their entitlements but expressed reservations over the spate of lay off in the company.
“Working with ExxonMobil is like holding your heart at hand because you can be fired at any time. If government does not take urgent step to check the incessant sacking of Nigerians in ExxonMobil, one day the oil giant company will disengage all our people,” he lamented.
Etebong who could not disclose how much was given, said that the money was paltry and inadequate for him to start a new life.
Another victim, Mr. Martins Usendia, expressed displeasure on the situation, saying that there was no justification for the sack of the workers.
Usendia, who lamented that the benefit given by the company was inadequate as it would not sustain him till he would get another job, called on the federal government to intervene in the matter.
