Management of the Federal Airports Authority Nigeria, FAAN has announced the closure of Benin airport for 20 days, starting from today, Saturday, June 20 to July 10 to facilitate rehabilitation work on the airport’s runway.
Based on this development, the authority has informed the airline operators, airline passengers and other airport users on other alternative airports to be used.
A Notice to Airmen, NOTAM, has already been issued to all operators of scheduled and non scheduled flights to the airport, to enable them make alternative arrangements for their flight operations during the period of the closure of the airport.
FAAN disclosed that the Asaba Airport and the Osubi airstrip in Warri could be used as alternates to the Benin Airport.
The Authority explained that runway rehabilitation work is part of a routine maintenance programme designed by the Authority to ensure that airport runways and other ancillary facilities do not fall below standards recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organisation, ICAO.
A statement signed by the Deputy Corporate Affairs manager, Onyekwere Nnaekpe said the Authority regrets any inconvenience the closure of the Benin Airport for this period will cause airline operators, airline passengers and other users of the airport.
