Ebonyi state House of Assembly has called on the former contractor that handled a section of the Abakaliki-Enugu expressway, Chinese Civil and Engineering Construction Company of Nigeria, CCECC, to immediately refund over N660 million to the coffers of the State government with immediate effect.
This was the resolution reached by the House during its plenary on Tuesday.
The House had set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the dualization of Abakaliki-Enugu expressway contract awarded to CCECC by the immediate past administration.
Presenting the report at the floor of the House, the Adhoc Committee headed by Hon. Humphery Nwurukwu representing Ikwo North state constituency noted that the level of work carried out by the Company was not commensurate with the amount of money spent on the dualization project.
The road extends from the permanent site of Ebonyi State University, EBSU to the Secretariat of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP is about 5.7 kilometer.
Recall that the road was formerly awarded to SETRACO by the federal government before former Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi state re-awarded a section of it to CCECC for dualization.
The House through a voice vote unanimously accepted and adopted the report of the Adhoc Committee with a charge on the management of CCECC to refund the sum of over N660 million to the state government.
