Nigeria’s women senior national team, the Super Falcons, will confront hosts Congo in the opening game of the All Africa Games today in Brazzaville.

The Super Falcons have won the All Africa Games football gold twice, in 2003 and 2007, beating South Africa in both finals 1-0 and  4-0 respectively.

Falcons will prosecute the ALL Africa Games with top players like the reigning African women Footballer of the Year, Asisat Oshoala, who is injured. Also not in the squad are Francesca Ordega, Josephine Chukwunonye, Ngozi Okobi among others due to club engagements.

However coach Christopher Danjuma said yesterday from Brazzaville that the team will be hoping to win their third top prize in Congo.

Congo, on the other hand, are minnows in women’s football and will be looking forward to upset the Nigerian side that have won the Africa cup of nations seven time and been to the FIFA world cup many times.
