NIGERIA’S women soccer team, the Super Falcons yesterday in Yaounde, prevailed over their arch rivals, Banyana Banyana of South Africa 1-0 to set up a final encounter with the Lioness of Cameroon. The Nigerian girls’ efforts were rewarded in the 53rd minute with a superlative goal scored by one of the team’s inventive attackers, Desire Oparanozie. The Super Falcons of Nigeria match against Banyana Banyana of South Africa was the second semi-final of this year’s Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, AWCON. In the history of the AWCON tournament, this was the fourth time the Falcons were facing South Africa in the semi-final. The Nigerian ladies emerged victorious in three of the four previous semi-final clashes .The Nigerian girls will battle Cameroon in the final on Saturday at Ahmadu Ahidjo Stadium, Yaoundé, with the aim of winning the Cup for a record 11th time.
