Association of Resident Doctors, ARD Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja chapter has honoured Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko as The ‘Best Governor in Nigeria for Innovation in Healthcare Delivery’.
Besides, Chairman Senate Committee on Health, Senator Lanre Tejuoso was presented with ‘The Lifetime Achievement Award.’
The award was presented during the weekend at a dinner/ award night to mark the end of the annual health week in Abuja, which started on the 6th of December.
The theme of this year’s health week was ‘management of armed conflict injuries: challenges of our time.
According to the Secretary, Health week planning committee, Dr Olumide Adewakun, “the award presentation is aimed at honouring as well as celebrate doctors in public offices, practicing and non-practicing, and also to celebrate public office holders who have in one way or the other contributed to the improvement in health care delivery in Nigeria.”
Speaking at the event, the President of the association, Dr. Isaac Olubanjo Akerele, called on the federal government to invest more in the health sector, noting that no amount invested in the sector will be a waste.
“My strong appeal to the government is to invest more in the health sector because no amount of investment in health is a waste. The expansion and upgrading of our health care facilities is very crucial to the revival of the Nigerian state,” he said.
Nigerian Pilot recalls that 26 people were honoured at the event with 6 senior doctors who were the founding executives recognised with the ‘Life Membership Awards’.
